The past decades have shown that children have unique characteristics and needs that must be taken into account, especially when faced with the law. This issue has been addressed in a number of UN and European documents dealing with the rights of a child. This is the case of our article. The child, faced with the justice system in different ways: as a victim, a witness or an accused, due to his age and mental development, requires a different treatment.
