LEGAL CLINIC AND GOVERNMENT GRANTS: WAYS TO INCREASE THE LEGAL AID IN RUSSIA

Abstract

Increasing the availability of legal aid, among other things, depends on the effectiveness of legal clinics. They have long been reliable legal aid providers. However, the implementation of large-scale projects requires resources. Therefore, state support in the form of grants is needed. Despite the fact that applications for participation in grant programs by legal clinics are submitted regularly, there are few winners. This may be due to a number of reasons: from insufficient awareness of the selection criteria to the absence of a professional project team. State grants are an important tool for the development of legal clinics and increasing the availability of legal aid in Russia, so this topic is especially important. The article analyses problems and offers ways of their solution based on the experience of the Regional public organization «Legal clinic of assistance to the poor» of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
